Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something for the Lord and not for people.” On Trinity Sunday, we celebrate the God who has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the Trinity is not merely a theological concept to be studied; it is a living reality that shapes how we worship, love, and serve. In this sermon, we explore how our service flows from our relationship with the Triune God.
First, we serve because the Father first loved us. Before God ever called us to serve, He created us, cared for us, provided for us, and adopted us into His family through Jesus Christ. Christian service begins not with duty, guilt, or pressure, but with gratitude. We serve because we belong to the Father's household and because His love compels us.
Second, we serve like the Son, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect model of humble and sacrificial service. Jesus came not to be served but to serve. He washed feet, welcomed the outcast, cared for the needy, and ultimately gave His life on the cross. In a world that values status, recognition, and personal advancement, Jesus teaches us that true greatness is found in serving others with humility and love.
Third, we serve through the power of the Holy Spirit. Christian service cannot be sustained by human strength alone. The Holy Spirit equips, strengthens, guides, and empowers believers for ministry. He gives wisdom, spiritual gifts, compassion, endurance, and unity. Without the Spirit, service becomes a burden; with the Spirit, service becomes joyful and fruitful.
Service is at the very heart of the Christian life. The Father loves us, the Son shows us how to serve, and the Holy Spirit empowers us to serve. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect the character of the Triune God in all that we do. Whatever our role in the church or in daily life, we are invited to serve wholeheartedly—not for human approval, but for the glory of God.
The Father loves us, therefore we serve.
The Son models service for us, therefore we serve humbly.
The Spirit empowers us, therefore we serve faithfully.
May our lives reflect the love, humility, and power of the Triune God as we serve Him with all our hearts!
