The Gospel of John 17 reflects on Jesus’ prayer that His followers may live in complete unity. I want to bring three points from Jesus’ prayer
1. We Are One Because Christ Lives in Us. Christian unity begins with Christ dwelling in every believer. Baptism symbolizes dying to the old life and rising into new life with Christ. Just as different light bulbs share the same electricity, believers from different cultures and backgrounds are united by the same Holy Spirit. Jesus’ followers walk together humbly as brothers and sisters in Christ.
2. We Are One Through Love and Forgiveness. The true unity is built through grace, humility, service, and forgiveness. Unity does not mean everyone is the same, but that believers remain connected in love despite differences. The church becomes stronger when his followers care for and support one another. Baptism reminds the congregation that all stand equally before God by grace.
3. Our Unity Becomes a Witness to the World. Christian unity is a testimony to the reality of the gospel. In a divided world, people see the power of Christ when believers love one another across barriers and differences. The church is encouraged to demonstrate unity in worship, fellowship, service, and daily relationships so that the world may recognize the presence of Christ among His people.
Through baptism, God forms one body, one family, and one people in Christ, calling believers to live in unity, love, and mutual care. God bless us all!
