Following Jesus: Costly but never alone

Sermon June 21, 2026

Following Jesus is a wonderful calling, but it is not always an easy path. We explore Jesus’ honest words about the cost of discipleship. He warns His followers that they may face opposition, rejection, and even misunderstanding from those closest to them. Yet, He also assures us that we never walk this journey alone.

Drawing from Matthew 10 and Romans 6, we will reflect on what it means to leave the old life behind and embrace the new life Christ has given us. Unlike the Israelites who were tempted to look back to Egypt, disciples are called to move forward without turning back. Through baptism, we have died with Christ and risen with Him to a new life of purpose and hope.

Although following Jesus may be costly, we are never abandoned. Christ walks with us, strengthens us in our fears, and holds us securely in His love. As we face opposition, resist the temptation to turn back, and learn to trust Him more deeply, and live the truth of His command: “Do not be afraid.”
