Christ Over All — The Answer to Every False Teaching

Sermon March 1, 2026

In this powerful passage from Colossians 2:8–23, the Apostle Paul warns the church against subtle but dangerous distortions of the gospel—legalism, mysticism, and asceticism. Each of these teachings promised deeper spirituality but ultimately diminished the sufficiency of Christ. Legalism added human rules to God’s grace. Mysticism sought spiritual fullness through visions and intermediaries. Asceticism promoted harsh self-denial as the path to holiness.

Paul’s resounding answer to every false teaching is clear: Christ is Supreme and Christ is sufficient. In Him dwells all the fullness of God; in Him believers are made complete; through His cross our sins are forgiven, our debt is cancelled, and spiritual powers are defeated. This sermon calls the church back to the supremacy of Christ—reminding us that true freedom, growth, and transformation are found not in “Christ plus something,” but in Christ alone.
