Sermon – January 4th, 2026
This sermon invites us to embrace our Verse for the Year: “Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something for the Lord and not for people” Col. 3.23. This is not a promise verse, but a guiding principle for our daily Christian living. We reflect on four elements — the what, the how, the who, and the who-is-not. “Whatever” reminds us that every task entrusted to us in God’s household matters, especially our calling to care for the widow, the orphan, the alien and the poor, following Jesus who “came to serve and not to be served.” We are called to serve from the heart — cheerfully, joyfully, passionately and sacrificially — avoiding pride or “eye-service.” Whatever we do, we do it for the Lord, offering our very best to Him, echoing Mother Teresa’s words: “I wanted to give something to the Lord very beautiful and without reserve.” And we do not serve merely to please people, but to live by a higher standard, remembering Jesus’ words: “For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven,” Mathew 5.20. As we live out our many roles — in our families, workplaces and church — may we do everything from the heart for the Lord, trusting Him to grant us a joyful and fruitful year ahead. God bless us all!
