Whose Image Do You Bear?

What does it mean to bear the image of God in our daily lives? In Matthew 22:15–22, Jesus is challenged by the Pharisees and the Herodians, who try to trap Him with a question about paying taxes to Caesar. Jesus responds with wisdom, saying, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” But His answer invites us to reflect on a much deeper question: What belongs to God, and are we giving Him what is rightfully His?

Being created in God’s image is not merely a statement about who we are; it is also a calling to how we should live. Our lives should reflect God’s love rather than hatred, generosity rather than selfishness, honesty rather than dishonesty, and compassion rather than indifference. As Christians, we are called to demonstrate God’s wisdom in our decisions, His justice in our dealings with others, His mercy towards the weak, His holiness in our conduct, and His love in every relationship.

Drawing on the example of St Charles de Foucauld, who sought to live among others in such a way that they might see Christ through him, this sermon reminds us that our lives should point people beyond ourselves to Jesus. We are called to be living reflections of Christ in our homes, workplaces, churches, and communities.

Ultimately, the question is not simply whether we believe in God, but whether our lives reflect the God in whose image we were created. If people observe our lives, will they catch a glimpse of Jesus? May the dear Lord help us to live a life that reflects his image in us! God bless!
