Sermon – December 28th 2025
This sermon reflects on Matthew’s infancy narrative, where the birth of Jesus is surrounded not by festive joy but by danger, fear, and uncertainty. King Herod’s fury forces Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus to flee to Egypt—yet even in the chaos, God’s guiding hand is unmistakable. Just as God sustained the Joseph of the Old Testament through hardship to fulfil His purposes, so too He guided Joseph of the New Testament from place to place until His plan was complete. Jesus was born under dark clouds, yet He rose as the true and only King. In the same way, God knows where to keep His people, even in seasons of trial. As we look back on difficult years and face an unknown future, we hold fast to Immanuel—God with us—trusting that He will continue to guide us. Therefore, we are invited to respond with gratitude and renewed commitment to God’s purposes in the year ahead.
