The Transfiguration Of Christ

Sermon- February 15th, 2026

Transfiguration of Jesus is the climax in our Epiphany season. On the mountain, before Peter, James, and John, Jesus’ hidden glory was revealed. His face shone like the sun and His clothes became dazzling white, showing an outward transformation (metamorphosis). Though Jesus always possessed divine glory, He veiled it in humility, as described in Philippians 2. The Transfiguration briefly unveiled that glory to strengthen the disciples.

This event marks the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant, with Jesus as the ultimate authority, greater than Moses and Elijah. It also prepared the disciples for His coming suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection. While Peter wanted to remain in that glorious mountaintop experience, Jesus showed that the vision was only a glimpse meant to encourage them for the difficult path ahead.

A key theme is transformation. Believers will one day be fully transformed into Christ’s glorious likeness (Philippians 3:20), but even now they are being inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18; Romans 12:2). Thus, Christians live between present transformation and future transfiguration.

The central call is: “Listen to Him.” Listening is not passive hearing but active, intentional obedience. The disciples had seen Jesus’ authority and glory; now they were called to truly listen and follow Him, especially through suffering. Remember suffering is part of the Christian journey, but it is not in vain. As we listen to Christ, He continues to transform us until the day we share fully in His glory.
