How do we answer invitations, especially when they come from the Lord Himself? Throughout the Bible, we are reminded of God’s call to reconcile with Him, yet we do not treat His invitation with the reverence it deserves. Perhaps it’s because His call reaches us gently and softly, without grand allure. Is this why we sometimes take His call lightly?
Jesus continues to beckon us with His tender voice, saying, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). But do we fail to respond because we’re preoccupied with the demands of earthly life? Our priorities in this world can become misaligned. We’ve heard stories of people so engrossed in making a living that they lose the essence of life itself. Let’s not settle for second or third best in this world; the supreme best is God alone.
“For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life?” (Matthew 16:26). Do we ignore His invitation because we mistakenly believe we are self-sufficient? This is a perilous notion. We, as human beings, are created in a way that we cannot truly live without God. Furthermore, we’ve fallen into the trap of sin, and only God can rescue us from the mess we find ourselves in.
Shall we heed His call? As someone once said, “With Jesus, I am a hero, and without Jesus, I am a zero.” Jesus promises, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). May God guide us to be responsive to His call. God bless!
