Embracing the Advent Season!

Our Advent journey commences this upcoming Sunday, the 3rd Dec. 2023. The term “Advent” originates from the Latin word ‘Adventus,’ meaning ‘arrival.’ It marks the anticipation of Christmas, commemorating the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem 2000 years ago.

We step into a festive season, eagerly awaited for its holidays, travel, gatherings with friends and relatives, indulgence in feasts, and the joy of baking cakes. However, amidst the numerous activities, there is a risk of losing sight of the true purpose of this celebration, as the hustle and bustle can overshadow its profound meaning. As we embark on this season, the question arises: How can we make it truly unique? What will set it apart?

The theme for the first Sunday of Advent is ‘stay awake.’ It prompts us to exist in the present, recognizing the period between Jesus’ first and second comings. In this liminal space, we are called to neither dwell in the past nor the future but to actively engage in the present, staying alert and serving others.

The profound message of Christmas is the mindfulness of God towards humanity. God remembered us in our imperfection, sending his precious gift, his son Jesus. In this awareness, we find inspiration to be mindful of one another, especially the needy and downtrodden. A friend of mine has chosen to send gifts to unknown needy families, while another intends to celebrate Christmas with those who might not otherwise have Christmas. As you plan your Christmas celebration, I encourage you to include individuals who may feel marginalized. In doing so, you can make this Christmas truly special. May your celebrations be blessed! God bless!
