Let my heart be good soil!

One of the well-known stories from the Bible is the Parable of the Sower, also called the Parable of the Soil. This story talks about four types of soil: a path with no soil, rocky ground with little soil, soil with thorns, and good soil. The seed in the story represents the word of God, which has life and potential. However, the seed can only grow and produce fruit in the good soil.

The good soil represents a good heart that listens to God’s word carefully, accepts it wholeheartedly, and acts on it. Only in good soil can the seed grow and yield fruit. We should ask ourselves: Are our hearts like good soil? If not, we should pray for God’s help to make our hearts ready to receive His word. The Holy Spirit works in us to prepare our hearts.

A songwriter expressed this idea in a song: “Lord, let my heart be good soil, open to the seed of your word. Lord, let my heart be good soil, where love can grow and peace is understood. When my heart is hard, break the stone away. When my heart is cold, warm it with the day. When my heart is lost, lead me on your way. Lord, let my heart, Lord, let my heart be good soil.”

May the Lord hear our prayers and give us good hearts to listen to Him. God bless!
