Stand Firm in the Lord

One of the challenges we face in our Christian journey is maintaining consistency in our walk with the Lord. For some, following Jesus is difficult, and for others, it is intensely challenging, especially when living in a hostile environment. However, this does not mean that following Jesus is easy for those who do not face such hardships.

Why is this so? God immensely blessed the people of Israel and miraculously led them out of slavery in Egypt. Yet, they murmured against Him. God even called them stiff-necked people and a people who go astray in heart. Despite His clear instructions and guidance, they repeatedly strayed from His path.

When circumstances are difficult, and we walk through dark times, we tend to draw closer to God. But when things become easier and more comfortable, we often forget Him. Are we like the Israelites? Jesus understands this tendency in us. He invites us to take shelter under His wings, saying: “How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing” (Luke 13:34).

This image of a mother hen is significant in the Bible. Though she is not the strongest animal, she willingly gathers her chicks under her wings, providing warmth and protection. She faces all dangers on behalf of her chicks so that no harm comes to them. This is exactly what our Lord Jesus did for us on the cross.

If this is true, why would we ever choose to step outside His protection? The Psalmist declares: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Under His wings, we are safe. Outside of Him, there is no security. May the Lord help us develop the habit of relying on Him at all times! God bless!
